Does digital multimedia content holds high utility for kindergarteners?

It is seen that technology is rapidly being used in offices, homes, institutions, and commercial industries. Schools are also no exception. With children being exposed to computers and mobile devices; it was thought why not integrate the technology and use it to promote learning and development in the children from a very young age. If used judiciously, it can take the children in the front line in this highly competitive world.

The advancement in technology has given rise to multimedia. What do you infer from multimedia? It is an interactive digital environment that presents the content in the form of various elements such as text, audio, video, animations, and graphics. This digital multimedia content is now being utilized effectively for the study of kindergartens. It not only increases their engagement but also results in the better retention of the study material. Technology that was once perceived to be abstract and difficult for young children; is now doing wonders. Therefore, it is apparent that digital multimedia content holds a high utility for kindergarteners. For a more subjective view, have a look below.

High interaction

Children are averse to monotonous homework routine. The classroom lectures are quite boring and fail to offer the needed thrill and entertainment. Therefore, to gain the interaction of kids, it is quintessential to make their course content highly interesting. Here comes the role of multimedia. The technology based multimedia content comes loaded with interactive features that encompass puzzles, quizzes, visual and sound effects, appealing graphics, and attractive videos. Instead of running away from their studies, children start embracing the study material and even utilize their free time in a productive manner.

Fosters in-depth learning and Understanding

In multimedia learning, kids build mental representations from engaging pictures, high utility videos, and words that are presented to them. The brain starts making a strong connection between the verbal and visual representations therefore leading to a deeper understanding of the content. When things start interesting them, they start learning deeply. Unlike, the traditional mode of teaching that utilizes just plain text, well-designed multimedia presentations are designed to work beyond everyone’s imagination.

Paves the way to mobile learning

With the advent of mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops; mobile learning has become a new form of digital learning. Equipped with high convenience, why not adopt this form of learning? Therefore, kindergarteners are also no behind. With the benefit of studying anytime and anywhere as per personal preference, the kids learn on a flexible basis in a location that suits them best. It has come to the light that on average a child of 5 years has become smartphone savvy. Therefore, why not incorporate mobile learning and reap enormous benefits?

Additionally, teachers also stay connected with the students via chat rooms, discussion board, emails, video conferencing, or instant chats. This also provides greater flexibility for timely feedback.

Development and Improved problem solving via Gamification

Recently there has been increasing emphasis on educating the children via the gamification method. Incorporating the gamification strategies results in the development of the children as far as their literature skills, mathematics skills, emotional, social, and cognitive skills are concerned. The educational digital games for children vests in themselves the high potential to positively affect the kids’ attitude toward learning. This is the type of technique that teachers and instructors look at when a problem-solving task occurs during lessons.

These strategies work by rewarding the players with badges, points, and other bonuses that can be utilized in future. This motivates them to keep engaged in their studies and work ever harder to achieve what they couldn’t.

Bottom Line

Undoubtedly, multimedia can play a pivotal role in achieving the goals of the kindergarten curriculum in all areas and subjects. It utilizes text, video, sound, graphics, and animations. It has promoted a deeper understanding of the kids, lead to better retention of their study material, and has improved their concentration level. According to research, using multimedia for teaching the kids impacts their mood positively. With a positive and happy mood, they tend to learn better and remain active during the entire session.

The growth in the utilization of multimedia content in the educational sector especially for kindergarteners has accelerated in recent years. Now, it is expected to expand in the near future.
